Steve Lamacq -Going Deaf For A Living
Although now based in Manchester, The Heartbreaks owe their romantic outlook to their former home Morecambe, the once-thriving seaside town in Lancashire. All four members of the group - drummer and main songwriter Joseph, vocalist Matthew Whitehouse, Guitarist Ryan Wallace, and bassist Deakin - were born and raised in Morecambe, and have witnessed its slow transition from charming seaside resort into a town hit by social and economic ruination.
Since first emerging from Manchester last year, the indie four-piece, all in their early twenties, have stolen hearts and set pulses racing with their determinedly romantic take on British pop culture. Think the northern pathos and humour of Alan Bennett's Talking Heads; the combustible energy of Elvis Costello & The Attractions; the spectral wonder of Johnny Marr's finest guitar riffs; and most of all, think the irresistible pop brio of every great Postcard Record release ever!
With many big names already seduced by their charms - fans include Johnny Marr and DJ Steve Lamacq, whilst the group bagged the Manchester Evening New's Best New Band of 2009 Award - and after recent support slots with bands including Pains of Being Pure at Heart and the Hurts, The Heartbreaks are all set to woo the rest of the nation with their imperious pop brilliance.
The Jill Fielding Band
Jill Fielding plays Guitar, Bodhran, Whistles and English Concertina. Jill fronts the band and is the main singer. She has built up a reputation over the years as having an excellent professional band that can adapt to almost any event. Jill has been taking vocal tutoring for most of her singing career and in now learning dance in various forms.
Nigel Fielding plays the keyboard and harmony vocals.
He is a great asset to the band with his keyboard skills, lively introductions and harmony vocals. Nigel worked in clubs in the 80's as a drummer, playing mainly for leading acts.
Shaun McGowan has been a professional musician for over twenty five years (he doesn't look that old really). Within that time he has been aBassist/Vocalist in progressive rock experimental band playing 5 stringbanjo/mandolins with a Bluegrass/Americana feel and evenBagpipes. He collects and plays lots of instruments and turns up to gigs with them on occasions. Oh, if you need lessons for anything that blows or plucks he's your man !
Tracy Hawkins
Is a local wedding singer in Lancashire, She has been singing since she was 17 years old and this is something she is very passionate about. She enjoys entertaining - "there is no better feeling than seeing the audience having a good time and enjoying my performance."
When she first began singing, she trained in musical theatre; she joined a theatre group and went touring, performing Shakespeare's plays in schools. This experience taught her how to bring a song to life and make the performance believeable.
Wonderlust
Wonderlust of Morecambe write and perform original material that stands somewhere between Paul Weller and The Raconteurs. A strong following in the North West has enabled the band to perform at a wide range of venues and with some of the UK's music legends including for the SENSE charity, The Storey Institute of Creative Arts and alongside Mani (The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Freebase), Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets), Goldmundo and even Hot Chocolate.
Cuerden Birds of Prey
There will be a Static Display throughout the day were you can handle and have your photographs taken with them. Plus a 45 minute flying display in the main ring.
